Funkytown!

Maybe I haven't been homesick in a while because it's been such a long time I've heard a song about Minneapolis. I mean, it's been a long time comin'. I think the last one was Closing Time, about Replacements haunt, the 400 Bar. While the boys' previous incarnation, Trip Shakespeare, remains one of my all time favourite bands, I never was a big fan of Semisonic.

Me and Ms. B. were driving to The Hunter Valley yesterday to do a little cellar door hopping, and I had the itrip pumping away. I decided to play some of my ipod newcomers, and dialed up Motion City Soundtrack, and was quite chuffed to hear the following:

"liz likes to liquor up my thoughts from the c.c. club to the triple rock"

Ahhh... home sweet home... The days when flat-mate Ben was behind the bar at Blondies (now punk palace, triple rock) serving up free booze on a Sunday arvo, while we watched the Vikings. Who knew the boy would end up our own Perry White.

I guess I'll have to hit up some of the old haunts in a couple of weeks when I am back in the ol' Bush Country.

Thank you to those concerned about my whereabouts, and or continued existence, and to those who added me to their links even though I haven't posted for nearly a month. My priorities have made time spent on the Raider very limited this month.

The following may be enlightening as to the reason for my absence:

God Save the Queen

Happy B-Day Queenie Poo... I know we haven't talked in a while but Happy Birthday, I hope we can see each other soon, I miss your smile and laughter. Thank you for the extra day off work, I love long weekends as much as I love Welsh Corgis, tiaras and modest frocks.

XOXO

As I have mentioned Big Brother Australia in a few posts, and have linked some NSFW material, readers are probably aware that I have been a regular watcher of the show. I am not one to criticize reality TV and complain about voyeuristic audiences, and the dumbing down of television. I would much rather watch the social interaction between people than programs which seem to allow audiences to be nearly titillated by the investigations of child murderers, sex offenders and the like, which seem to dominate television these days. While the participants on Big Brother may not be a typical cross section of society, it still leads to a very entertaining social experiment. I do apologize to U.S. visitors to the Raider, that I ramble on a bit about an Aussie show that you care nothing about!

So, I come to my point. While I have found the show extremely entertaining, I have an issue with Channel 10's choice of new "replacement" housemate, Rachael. It is pretty obvious that Rachael has some emotional health issues, and Channel 10 should have mental health professionals involved in the screening process. Anyone who spent even a short period of time speaking to this young woman, let alone evaluating her emotional state would have come to the conclusion that not only should she avoid being in a corrosive environment, such as a reality tv program, she should be seeing someone to help her through some of these issues. While everyone is in the house complaining about the girl, housemate Dean has decided to beat her down even further. Whether or not his arguments are correct, I can't imagine feeling the need to hurt someone who is obviously vulnerable. My father always told me that the highest form of intelligence is compassion. The only person portraying this intelligence is housemate Tim, obviously the network and the majority of the house are truly neophytes. My only hope is that she is voted out of the house in two weeks time, to avoid too much emotionally damaging interaction.

Enough with my little rant. I recently received a random bunch of pictures in my inbox, of a saucy French news reporter. Will the Thighmaster consider her for the new Queen of Thighland? Maybe it's time to at least add a concubine.

That's it for today... However, Ms. Highco would like to remind everyone that the deeper Ramekins work better for yesterday's Creme Brulee, as the sugar layer aint so dense, yo!

Miss. Highco's Raspberry and White Chocolate Creme Brulee

It's been a long time comin, but me thinks now that winter is upon us, it's time to start cooking again here on the Raider. Every good chef needs an agent 99, and this Seppo was lucky enough to have his over for some 321 Spatchcock. She came armed with her blowtorch, and whipped up the most wonderful little treats ever! On our second attempt, we learned that it is a good idea to avoid cooking the Brulees in an oven containing a 3.5 Kilo pork roast. Make sure you cook these babies by themselves, or the temp won't be right. Get crackin' kids!!!

Ingredients:

400 ml cream
4 small egg yolks
4 Tbsp sugar1 tsp Vanilla
50g white chocolate
Raspberries (fresh or frozen)
Extra sugar

Method:

Chop white chocolate into small pieces. Heat cream until steaming and whisk together with chocolate. In separate bowl whisk together yolks, sugar and vanilla. Whisk cream mixture into egg mixture. Place 5-6 raspberries in base of 4 ramekins. Pour over cream mixture and place in a roasting pan. Fill with boiling water until half way up the ramekins, and bake in 180 degree oven for 30 mins, or until firm on the sides and still wobbly in the middle. Leave until cool and then refrigerate until ready for dessert. Sprinkle top of crème brulees with sugar (approx 1/2Tbsp each) and use either a chefs torch or put under very hot grill until brown. Leave to set in the fridge for 10 mins.

GG Gone Wild

I'll leave it to BBB to spread the news on Rachael's bits, and stick to GGs. It seems that our recent Big Brother evicte and morality advocate, Gianna, has confused a a company work function for Mardi Gras. "Where's my beads!" she yelled, after the shot was taken.
